Any info on my cool subway map and poster?

Thought you guys would get a kick out of these.

My father worked for the transit authority for over 30 years and brought home some cool stuff over that time.  This map is my favorite:

map_zps10944040.jpg

I know it hung in Fort Hamilton Station and was produced in 1947.

A more recent cool find was this poster from the subway series in 2000:

I have only ever found one other copy of the map and I can't find any other copies of the poster despite much googling and ebay searches.  Anybody know any cool info on either of these posters?

Bergen County residents will be able to comment and ask questions about potential routes for proposed bus rapid transit routes in the county at a hearing on Thursday night.

The hearing will be held starting at 5 p.m. at Bergen Community College, Phillip Ciarco Learning Center room, 102-103 Main Street in Hackensack. A presentation about an analysis and the preferred routes will be given between 6:30 and 7 p.m.

"The presentation will give an overview of the planning analysis and potential routes identified to best serve residents," said Nancy Snyder, an NJ Transit spokeswoman. "NJ Transit, Bergen County officials and the consultant team will be on hand to answer any questions and provide project information."

In some places, bus rapid transit runs like a light rail system without tracks, on a roadway separated from other traffic. In other instances, bus rapid transit is more of an express service, with limited stops. such as the Go-Bus service NJ Transit offers in Newark.

Five routes selected by a study team are under consideration. Those routes were designed to connect key transportation or other destinations such as the Montvale Park and Ride, the Secaucus Junction train station, the Meadowlands Sports Complex, several malls, Bergen Community College, and Englewood and Valley Hospitals.

The five routes under consideration are:

Montvale Park and Ride to Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Bergen Community College to Secaucus Junction train station.

Englewood Hospital to Secaucus Junction.

Garden State Plaza to Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Broadway Bus Terminal, Paterson to the George Washington Bridge Bus Station.

(4) Train Musician gets into a brawl with a Homeless Man.

I saw this with my own eyes yesterday. Here it goes.

Around 5:32 PM yesterday, I was sitting near the door on a WoodLawn Bound (4) Train. A guy came on, and he stood next to the opposite door near a Indian Guy with his son. He saw the son, and said "Hi little boy." He immediately goes to a woman whos sitting in a seat, and orders her to get up so the kid can sit. She refuses and the guy gets mad but then the father said "No, its alright." The guy grunted, and returned next to the door.  The train stopped at Brooklyn Bridge, and a 15 year old kid comes on carrying a bucket, sticks, and a flute. After the doors close, he yells, "Ladies and Gentlemen, sorry for the interruption today but-" he gets cut off by the guy saying "Shut UP!" The kid returns to what hes saying "But today Im trying to get money to buy a new drum for my band. So please If you can listen.." "I said Shut UP!" The guy yells and everyone looks at him. I knew this was gonna get out of hand, so I tried to move to the next car but the door was jammed. The kid starts playing music, and the guy returns to the Indian guy's son and says "Dont worry, hes stupid." The father clutches his son, he did not want him to talk or touch his son, but he didn't want to get into a fight. The guy stands up and says " Come one, shut up! Your hurting the poor kid." Another guy thats standing next to the kid whos playing music tells him "Leave him alone, hes not doing anything to you." "Who the f*ck was talking to you?" the guy responds. The guy looks at him and turns away. I look out the window and see Worth Street and I groaned. Ethier this train was going to make it to 14 Street without a fight, or it would make it to 14 Street with someone having a broken nose. "Lady didnt I tell you to get up?" the guy speaks to the lady whos sitting down again. "Please, I dont want any trouble." The lady responds. The guy laughs, and the kid stops playing music. He says "Thank you very much!" and takes off his cap and walks to where I'm standing, gathering money. He walks to the lady who the guy yelled at, and she gives him a dollar. The guy yells again "See, you dont say thank you! B*tch's like you aren't grateful for nothing. Gimme that!" the guy says and grabs the boys hat. I look out the window again, Spring Street. The boy gets stunned, and pushes the guy off. He crashes into the door, and jumps on him. Now everyone was moving toward the other end of the car trying to open the jammed door. I raced to the other side, turning on the emergency intercom, but either the conductor wasnt paying attention, or the mic was broken because the Green Light stayed on and turned off. I look back at the fight, and the guy was now trying to get his hands on the kid. The kid swats his hands, and the guy slaps the kids face. Now the kid jumped on the man, and he staggered back and almost squished me when he fell. I ran to the other side again fumbling for my phone, and found out it had no charge. I pushed people aside, and banged on the door hoping a person on the other train car would hear me. I look back and I see the man over the boy, trying to squish him. A guy, the same one who told the other guy to back off, jumped in and pried the guy off the kid. I look out the window, Astor Place. We were close. Another man jumped in defending the kid, and the both of them threw the guy against the door. He was trying to get away, but those guys had a hard grip. "This is 14 Street, Union Square" the announcement said. I was so relived, and the train stopped at the station. When the doors opened, the guy pulled his knees up to one of the men, and he fell down. He then swatted the other man and he let go, and the guy raced out of the (4) train to get on the (6) train that was preparing to leave. The men got up and raced after him, but the train doors closed and the guy made it in. The men were banging on the door, yelling at the conductor to stop the train, but he didnt. They let go, and they swore. They came back on the (4) and asked, "Where's the kid?" All of us looked around, and he was gone. A lady went out of the train to talk to the station manager, and I followed her. I said this was to much for me, so I just went and got on a (N) train. I was glad no one was hurt, so I just stared at the FIND.

This is the type of problems we are dealing with everyday on the subway. The MTA must put cameras in Subways, to stop this from happening.

Fare-beating teen gets phone stolen by crook posing as NYPD cop

The 13-year-old ducked under a turnstile and was fooled into handing a man his HTC One cell phone at the W. 168th St. and Ft. Washington Ave. subway station in Washington Heights last month according to police.

St. and Ft. Washington Ave. subway station in Washington Heights last month according to police.

A fare-beating teen got a life lesson when a crook posing as a cop stole his cell phone.

The 13-year-old boy fell for the con last month after ducking under a turnstile around 4 p.m. at the W. 168th St. and Ft. Washington Ave. subway station in Washington Heights, cops said.

The teen was approached by a man who claimed to be a cop.

Rattled by the mock bust, which went down Oct. 14, the teen didn't protest when the fake cop demanded his phone, according to police.

The bogus officer told the boy he needed the HTC One cell to take pictures then dashed off with the device.

(F) Train Rape on Law And Order: SVU.

I recently watched on USA Law and Order SVU, and there was this episode that a lady got on a (F) train, and a man followed her. It was going Express from Jay St - MetroTech to Delancey St. When the train stopped at Jay Street, the train car emptied to about 25% , and the guy grabbed a Knife out and threw the lady against the locked door and started raping her. The thing that bothers me is that there was a lady WATCHING this whole entire rape and standing NEXT to them, and she didn't do nothing! Nether did any of the other bystanders! Since the train was going express, she got raped all the way from Jay Street to Delancy St. When the (F) stopped at Delancy, the guy barged out of the door and the lady fell on the floor, covering her underpants. And the thing is, nobody helped her until she gained a little of energy and went to the train operator and say that she got raped, this was at JACKSON heights - Roosevelt Ave, and then they shut down the line.

I know this is film making, but has this ever happend before? Someone abusing someone on a train and nobody goes to help them?

How does the MTA calculate bus ridership?

I believe this has been discussed before but I don't think it's been talked about in detail.  I would like to know the following:

What constitutes an actual rider?

For example, is someone with a pass counted the same way as someone who who pays the actual fare? What about seniors and disabled people?

How is the average weekday and weekend ridership composed?

B/O's and Insurance

I was talking to one of the B/O's on the QM1 recently, and he told me that if you get into an accident while operating a bus, the other person can actually sue the B/O directly, separately from suing the MTA, and that the MTa won't cover any damages.

Do B/O's have to carry their own insurance to cover themselves in these matters? That seems really crazy to me

Fulton bus transit center

What if on top of the existinh transit center, a bus terminal was built so all (but the X1) express buses who run out of dowtown stop there. I would also have all the commuter coaches that start on trinity pl go through the transit center and on the west side highway for a quicker departure from Manhattan. For this to work I would also build direct bridges from both directions of the west side highway, to speed things up.
Thoughts?

iPhone 6 Plus barometer in NYC Subway

I wanted to see the elevation of the City Hall Loop using the 6's new barometer on the iPhone 6 Plus. When it entered the loop, it started showing me that we were going up for some reason, and when we entered city hall, the barometer immediately dropped down and then slowly fell back into place when we reached the station.

Does anyone know if this elevation is true or not?

Wai_Kuen_Kwok66f44b6e-aeac-4388-b8a4-f20TWC News: Man Dies After Being Pushed in Front of D Train
Play now

Police say they believe a 61-year-old man was pushed to his death in front of a D Train in the Bronx, as his wife looked on.

Police say Wai Kuen Kwok was waiting with his wife at the East 167th Street station shortly before 8:45 a.m. Sunday when he was pushed.

They say the man who pushed him then fled the scene.

Witnesses and neighbors say they're disturbed by the news.

"They were going frantic themselves, the MTA workers, and they were whispering amongst themselves which freaked everyone else out at 145th. So, basically, it was really chaotic," one witness said.

"I've been living here a long time and I've never seen nothing like that happen. I just feel bad for him," said another.

MTA board member: ‘We should ban backpacks’ on the subway

MANHATTAN (PIX11) — If you’ve ever squeezed your way into a crowded New York City subway car, you’ve inevitably encountered this character.

The straphanger who, despite the cramped conditions, refuses to take off his backpack to make room.

But if one MTA board member has his way, that rider who draws the ire of his fellow squished straphangers would be subject to a special rule.

At this month’s transit committee meeting, MTA board members are hearing statistics that confirm what riders know: The trains are packed and delays are common.

Board member Chuck Moerdler on Monday asked about projects to add more capacity, and staff members pointed to communication-based train control that could allow more trains to run.

During the meeting, Moerdler complained about crowding on trains and commented that some riders wearing backpacks — instead of putting them in the floor — contributed to the problem.

“I think we should ban backpacks,” Moerdler said.

The idea was not discussed further. He later explained to PIX11 News that rather than ban backpacks all together, he thinks the agency’s code of conduct should be tweaked to require that straphangers take off their backpacks or put them on the floor.

Sorry about my hiatus ladies and gentleman. I have been working overtime on keeping up to date with all things (MTA) across all agencies. This is on of the first of many stories, ideas, or planed changes that are coming to the MTA over the next 20 months.

This particular story above had been a rumor that I confirmed this past week. It is now official.

I also agree. We should take off our backpacks during rush hours.
